Brian
Davies
Brian has worked in the antiques and fine arts business for 30 years.
He began his career working for Fraser Brothers in Montreal and prior
to that he studied Art History at Langara College. For the last dozen
years Brian has been an independent dealer, participating in numerous
antique shows throughout the year, as well as doing benefit auctions and
independent appraisals Brian recently opened an antique shop and gallery
in Knowlton, Quebec.
Robert
Docherty
Robert has been in the Arms and Militaria business since 1988. An avid
collector, he purchased his first piece in 1985 for $125.00. “I
have always had an interest in original items from the 15th Century to
the 19th Century; I guess it's the romance behind the antiquity that keeps
me motivated.”
Maurice
Doll
Maurice spent 32 years as the military history and numismatics curator
for the Provincial Museum of Alberta. He is considered one of two Canadian
experts on war-time propaganda art in Canada and was awarded the Queen’s
Golden Jubilee medal for excellence in heritage preservation. An expert
on arms and militaria, Maurice also operates Bellum Books, which specializes
in rare and out of print books in history and military history.)
Geoffrey
Dominy
Geoff is an independent Gemmologist based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
In addition to his work on the Canadian Antiques Roadshow, Geoff is an
avid traveller and has spent the last couple of years, travelling throughout
the British Isles and Europe, buying and selling antique jewellery and
researching the various antique jewellery markets.
He
is also a Fellow of the Gemmological Association and Gem Testing Laboratory
of Great Britain with Distinction, which is one of the highest gemmological
designations in the world.
Throughout
the 1990's, Geoff developed and taught the "Gemmology" program
at both Red River Community College and The University of Manitoba in
Winnipeg, worked for the Canadian Institute of Gemmology, was President
and Founder of the Jewellery Appraisers Association of Canada and was
asked to be a contributing author for the 5th Edition of Robert Webster's
"Gems" which even today is considered one of the most authoritative
textbooks in Gemmology. In addition to numerous speaking engagements,
Geoff also teaches the "Jewellery Appraisal" program at Vancouver
Community College. Most recently, Geoff worked as Managing Director for

Dennis
Downey
Dennis has been a collector in one form or another for as long as he can
remember. While still in grade school he quickly learned that he could
sell or trade items that were of no interest to him to local antique and
second hand shops. Dennis has now been collecting for over 45 years. His
main areas of expertise include 1840's to 1900 photographic images, unusual
stereoscopes, stereoviews of Indians and small town Canada, Hudson’s
Bay Fur Trade items, Folk Art & Primitives and Northern Plains Indian
beadwork. He owns Antiques to Go in Winnipeg.
Lindsay
Drummond
Lindsay is a long time collector, buyer and seller of Medals and Militaria.
He is a member of the Bytown Militaria Collector’s Club of Canada,
Orders and Medals Research Society and the Militaria Collectors Club of
Canada. Lindsay is currently undertaking professional Archival Research
specializing in World War One Expeditionary Force Service Records and
World War Two Canadians Killed in Action.
Tony
Duke
Tony comes from an antiques background; his father owned an antiques store
in Cheshire England and Abersoch, North Wales. Although his main area
of expertise is 18th and 19th century furniture, Tony’s experience
as an auctioneer and and dealer have given him a strong understanding
of all areas of the antique business.
Barbara
Ellis
Barbara has been in the book trade since 1985, after a career in music
which took her to Europe and South Africa. Barbara has been a member of
The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, The Antiquarian Booksellers
Association of Canada and the Canadian Booksellers’ Association
of Canada for the past 13 years and owns The Edmonton Book Store. She
has appraised items for The University of Alberta, The University of Calgary,
The Museum of regiments, The Alberta Genealogical Society, The Provincial
Archives of Alberta and for private clients since 1992.
Lucie
Favreau
Lucie has been dealing with antiques since 1979 and has specific expertise
in the areas of advertising, toys and sports memorabilia. (In fact Lucie
is one of the only – and possibly only- female appraiser of sports-related
items in the country!) Lucie has spent the past two years working on a
major sport historical database in addition to running her store in Montreal.
Larry
Foord
Larry has had a life-long interest in horology because of a self proclaimed
interest in “all things mechanical.” He has been collecting
and dealing in clocks and watches since his early 30’s as a hobby/sideline.
In 1995 he sold his business interests and semi-retired, and began working
full time on worldwide Internet sales for all things horological. He is
a member of the National Association of Watches and Clocks of York, PA.,
as well as the local Chapter 33 located in Toronto.
John
Forbes
John has been dealing with antiques, particularly Canadiana, since 1975.
His forte is 19th century stoneware and earthenware pottery, but he is
also a well-known expert in the fields of Canadian and American furniture
and accessories, early lighting, pottery, toleware, treen, early folk
art, textiles and other North American works of art.
Phyllis
Friedman
Phyllis has been dealing in antiques since 1973, but after more than 30
years in the retail antiques business she has closed her shop. She plans
to continue doing consulting in the antiques field for people who are
downsizing and need advice on how to dispose of their antiques properly
and fairly “if their children don't want them or do not live that
lifestyle.”
In addition to her interest in 18th and 19th century furniture and accessories,
Phyllis is a professional interior designer and expects to spend some
of her time scouting out pieces for collectors and advising them on purchases.
Molly
Garnes
Molly and her husband discovered a shared interest in antiques many years
ago, but Molly has taken it one step further by selling her finds in two
Vancouver stores. Her areas of expertise include dolls, teddy bears, toys
and antique fabrics. After an intensive three year course in bisque and
china, Molly also has a good eye for these items as well.
Frank
Hall
Frank is a charter member of the Canadian Association of Personal Property
Appraisers as well as a past member of both the Appraiser’s Association
of American and the International Society of Appraisers. As an auctioneer
in Alberta, Frank has appraised and sold thousands of items including
fine art, jewellery, rugs and other antiques in addition to offering his
services to the Glenbow Museum, Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, Lougheed
House, and the Foothills Hospital Foundation.
James
Ham
James has repaired and restored stringed instruments in Victoria B.C.
for more than 30 years. He worked at Old Town Strings, in downtown Victoria,
from 1972 through 2001, where he bought, sold, and appraised stringed
instruments. He now works in his home shop where he focuses on making
new instruments (double basses) and continues to do repair, restoration
work and appraisals by appointment. He is a member of the American Federation
of Violin and Bowmakers and the Violin Society of America. He is the winner
of the 2001 Manning Innovation Award for innovations related to the double
bass.
Dirk
Heinze
Dirk began his career as an archivist at the Canadian Centre for Photography
and Film. His expertise is in the field of books, maps, photography, posters
and ephemera. As well as acting as a consultant to various galleries and
museums he is the president of "Auction House Heinze & Co."
which specializing in rare books, historical autographs, photography and
art.

Bill
Hogan
Bill has been an antiques dealer for over three decades. He is a Certified
Appraiser of the Certified Appraisers Guild of America and has been the
featured speaker at the Harbourfront Antique Centre in Toronto. Bill is
the author of two books on antiques and is well-known for his wealth of
knowledge and genial manner.
Mike
Huen
Mike started his career in the antiques business at the age of ten when
he began collecting bottles. He currently deals in advertising, toys,
tin, jukeboxes, radios, postcards and all other types of nostalgia at
his store Mike’s General Store in Winnipeg. Mike currently writes
a column for the Winnipeg Free Press and has done guest appearances on
many local radio and television shows including a monthly spot on CBC
radio for the past 25 years.
