Hi.
I was visiting my cousin in Southern New Brunswick. While there we went
up into the attic of his garage. There I looked at a box full of old magazines.
He has 1950s Saturday Evening Post magazines in pristine condition, some
with Norman Rockwell covers. (March 15, 1958) I also saw one with an article
about Marilyn
Monroe. He also had Mechanix Illustrated magazines from the same era in
excellent condition. Would these magazines be worth anything to collectors?
Thank you for looking into this for me.
We
asked John Townsend to respond:
Generally speaking magazines do not have any
great value after 1950. There are some exceptions to the rule and the
Norman Rockwell covers are one. However, they will only bring $10.00 to
$20.00 from this time period and they do have to be in very good to fine
condition. The Marilyn Monroe article would probably go for about half
the Norman Rockwell value. The Mechanix Illustrated magazines, although
they have great front covers, have never really caught on in the collector’s
market and can be seen selling at most flea markets for $1.00 to $5.00.
